Elder Hawae's Arrival

While we were gone, we received 13 new missionaries at the MTC. That pushed our numbers to 96. The most missionaries we have ever had here. Jon’s Counselor, President Fielding, and his family stayed to keep them under control while we were away. I think they were exhausted by the time we returned! I want to share a story of a missionary that arrived from Fiji while we were away. This was the first time in his life that he had ever been on an airplane. This is how President Fielding shared it with us.

“Elder Hawae didn’t arrive at the appropriate time. I am not sure the exact details of the logistics problem. I do know he missed his flight in London, so was delayed to a later flight. I believe the person that was to meet him had to go to another terminal to meet others. However, I am not sure of the rest of the facts. Later in the afternoon, he walks in the front door and tells us of this small miracle. He took a flight from Nausori Airport in Fiji to Nadi Airport in Fiji. He then flew from Fiji to Sydney and Sydney to Singapore. He went from Singapore to London, and due to customs and the short time between flights, missed his connecting flight to Manchester. He arranged a later flight from London to Manchester. When he arrived in Manchester, there was no one there, and he waited for a short time and then started asking how to get to Chorley. He finally found someone who knew how to get to Chorley. He gave him train directions. He bought the ticket but missed the scheduled train, so he took a later train that stopped in Piccadilly, changed trains and caught a train to Chorley. When he arrived in Chorley, he asked around to people where the temple was, with not very much help. He then started walking to find the temple, because he knew if he found the temple, they would know where the MTC was. He eventually saw Moroni, and knew where he was. He arrived at the MTC almost in tears as he shared his gratitude to be on his mission. It was special.”

These missionaries we serve are pretty amazing. Each one of them. I feel more and more of their sacrifice and faith, the longer I am here with them.
