a grateful heart

as i have pondered over the past several days about all in my life that i am thankful for, i have realized more and more that it all involves my testimony, my Savior, my family and my friends. relationships are all that really matter. this year though, i would like to be specific about how grateful i am for my family!

my husband- the kindest, strongest, most caring MAN in the world, our children and our little granddaughter bring the joy in my life. spending time with them; having fun, working, relaxing, talking and whatever life brings us, is what makes life worth living!

my parents and jon's parents- are the most celestial people i have ever been around. how lucky we are to have had such wonderful parents to show us the way, and give so freely of their love and support through the years!

our brothers and sisters- are the funnest people on the planet. i love spending time with each of them and their husbands and wives. they are some of my bestest friends!

my nieces and nephews- again some of the funnest people on the planet. i look forward to every occasion that brings us together.

my nieces and nephews children- oh my gosh! these are really some of the most adorable children on the planet. they keep me grinning the entire time i am around them!

i believe i enjoy my extended family as much as my own, and i hope i always have opportunities to be with them! thanks for being my forever family!

5th annual Christmas shopping trip to Utah!

If my memory serves me well, I think it has been about five years since Keri and I have been traveling to Utah for a little Christmas shopping! Truth be told, this trip is more about eating at our favorite spots, talking, laughing, staying up crazy late, and telling each other that it is really ok to buy some things we normally wouldn't feel ok about. Sometimes we even find a few Christmas presents for others along our way. Also, if I can remember correctly, the first year we pretty much filled up the back of my suburban with our purchases. Keri might have taken a picture of it. We got home and unloaded, hiding most of what we got, and she asked if she could keep some of her stuff in my garage for a couple of weeks. This year she called Nick (her hubby) as soon as we pulled in and asked for his help in unloading! My how things have changed :)

Each year we always find something very cute and irresistible! We have our favorite shopping spots, starting in St. George and ending in Salt Lake. We spend one night at Brenda's (my sister) and one night at Kimberly's (Keri's sister). It is a great way to start off the Christmas season and truly one of my favorite traditions!

ps- it is a little extra treat now that Tod and Sadie are going to school in Salt Lake and I get to see them too.

miss megan meets---so you think you can dance!

bunker dance center's performing arts company participated in its first convention this past weekend. it was called "the pulse" and all of the teachers participating were from "so you think you can dance". (laurie ann gibson, wade robson, chris judd, dave scott, mia michels, etc.) this was sort of an unconventional convention, because the whole philosophy of this group is "thinking outside of the box". instead of competing numbers, they invited each studio present to perform one number, and then each of these teachers would critique the performance! it turned our that about twenty studios danced in the performance showcase saturday night.

(a little background on the past couple of months since school started in preparation) the studio was a day late getting the registration turned in, hence it was all sold out and we weren't sure if they were going to be able to participate. that was very sad because the girls really wanted to do this one, since they all "live" for the show come springtime! it all worked out thanks to some "good will" done last year by the girls, so they decided to let them participate. they were a little behind in getting started on the choreography (peter and stacey collaborated on this piece, their modern and lyrical teachers) and the girls were told to plan on spending every friday and saturday evening 7 - 10 pm in the studio! needless to say, megan was not excited about that plan, but she surprised me and really never complained about it! the girls finished learning the piece with just a couple of days to work on cleaning it up, and getting everyone together. the costumes were a whole nother story, suffice it to say, three mothers (not me!) were at the studio two hours before the performance with sewing machines, sewing and fixing and so forth! HELP!!!

so leading up to this performance i would ask megan how she was feeling about it, and she just kept saying, i think we might embarrass ourselves (afraid they weren't prepared to perform it yet). she had never done it with the costume on and finished, and they are usually a little better prepared. anyway, they were #13 to perform. as i sat and watched #1 - 12, i kept thinking, "this must be the first show of the year", because i was really enjoying watching the performances! i had no idea what to expect from our group, all i knew was that they were using teacups and saucers in this piece, and megan had been the first one to break a cup, at the first practice, when someone kicked it out of her hand.

THEY BLEW ME AWAY!!!!! along with everyone else sitting there. each of the teachers were very impressed and full of compliments as the critiques were given. mia michels was very fun. she told everyone that she was the old lady sitting on the chairs and that she had been to more conventions than she liked to remember. she just kept saying, "you know how many of these i have watched." and then she said, "this dance is my favorite one EVER!" "and i HATE the choreographer, because i want to have thought of this piece!" WHEW HEW!!!! unbelievable! what a compliment, for a bunch of dancers who wondered if they would be any good this year because they had lost sooo many strong dancers last year after graduating from high school. i am so very HAPPY for them all. once again, it was worth the friday and saturday nights spent in learning and practicing! i can't wait to see it again...

fyi - kathy is trying to plan an evening to earn money for a charitable cause, where the girls will dance, but instead of being at a competition, they will be performing to try and benefit someone in need. if it really comes to pass, we will make sure and invite all of you!

lauren lucy

i've had the sweet pleasure of being with my little grand-daughter a couple of times this week. she TICKLES me!! she really reminds me so much of kristen lucy; her determination, her desire to do things herself, her concentration, her love of books, the way she laughs, the curls in her hair. but, she is also herself! she climbs up to the computer and goes to town. i am sure she is highly intelligent! can i just say one more time...i LOVE being a grand-mother!

the sick and afflicted

poor hailey! i took her out of school last tuesday to make a trip to dr. tuggle, and she was diagnosed with a sinus infection. she wanted to come home, even though she had started the day at school, mostly because she had no energy. wednesday she started to feel pretty nauseated off and on and thursday morning she started throwing up. friday, monday and tuesday she went to school, and then again wednesday morning the throw up thing started. Poor girl, this time it lasted long into the night and today we are trying our best to get some food and water into her little dehydrated body so she can feel some energy. she has lost six pounds in one week! (if i could only be so lucky:)) so dr. mom gave her a little pedicure to see if that would heal her tummy. we're praying that we don't see the stomach flu around here again for a very long time. too much wash! get better soon hot hay!

pebble beach...golf mecca

jon and i have been so lucky the last three years to be able to go to pebble beach with three other fun couples and enjoy the beauty and serenity that is found in that little piece of golf paradise! (believe me, i really do understand how lucky i am, a non-golfing woman, to be included in this golfer's weekend!) i can see it in jon's eyes and all over his face, how much he loves to play golf there, and especially with these men he enjoys playing with. following are some pictures he took, probably not the ones he would have chosen to display, but oh well, i thought they were pretty. the day the ladies drove to big sur, he had my camera (of course), so i am a little short on pictures of the women! we had a very good time though and got to see some breathtaking views from PCH 1. unfortunately the fog rolled in just as we were stopping for lunch. it was very strange, feeling like i was looking at a view in the mountains and then down the cliff to my right was the ocean. i think that is the first time the forest and the sea have been together for me.

anyway, these are my top five favorite things about pebble beach:

walking- taking daily walks with judy along the coast in carmel. (unfortunately this year, judy's knee was hurt so we only made it there once) still one of my favorite things to do!

eating- i feel like i come home ten pounds heavier each year, but everything is sooo good, it is worth it!

relaxing- the rooms at casa palmero are to die for! a fireplace, a jacuzzi out the patio door, and a luxurious bathtub--reading, reading, reading--and floating at the spa :)

conversing- i am so lucky that jon likes to play golf with people who have really great women in their lives. they are easy to be with, and always, always interesting and enjoyable to talk with!

honeymooning :)- not really, but being with jon is always a special treat. it is great to have time together to talk, and laugh, and rest!

the fog rolling in!

jon what are you doing in that sand? nice save big don!

how come jon and i don't look as relaxed as the others? maybe we need some of that wine :)
