a grandfather and a patriarch

almost the day we found out that we were leaving for california, hailey decided she better get her patriarchal blessing before we leave. it is a pretty special thing to be able to get your blessing from your very own grandfather! last night was the night.

after we arrived we visited with grandpa for awhile and he shared some pretty profound thoughts from president thomas s. monson (october 1986 conference) about patriarchal blessings. i wanted to write them down.

"a patriarchal blessing is a revelation to the recipient, even a white line down the middle of the road, to protect, inspire, and motivate activity and righteousness. a patriarchal blessing literally contains chapters from your book of eternal possibilities. i say eternal, for just as life is eternal, so is a patriarchal blessing. what may not come to fulfillment in this life may occur in the next. we do not govern God's timetable...
your patriarchal blessing is yours and yours alone...your blessing...is not to be framed or published. rather, it is to be read. it is to be loved. it is to be followed...your patriarchal blessing is to you a personal liahona to chart your course and guide your way."

thank you grandpa bunker for being prepared and worthy to give hailey such a beautiful, wonderful blessing. what a sweet night...one we will always remember!
